Career: Shop Hand

Performs custodial work in the service/shop areas and office. Also, provides assistance in various tasks from the direction of the Shop Manager.

Responsibilities and Skills

  • Organizes shop and maintains inventory.

  • Assures trucks are stocked in the morning with all appropriate equipment

  • Assists in basic routine vehicle maintenance – e.g., oil changes, brakes, etc.

  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops and cleans floors using industrial cleaning equipment.

  • Operates forklift when needed.

  • Empties trash and disposes of larger items.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Hours: 6am – 10am (could vary, and great possibility for full-time in the spring/summer).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.

  • Proven commitment to safety.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities. 

Required Competencies

  • Physical: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

  • Lifting: The ability to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Attitude: Requires “people” skills and a genuine desire to service the client. A positive attitude and willingness to maintain a professional demeanor with vendors and team members is essential to this position.

  • Attendance: The ability to work as scheduled with punctual attendance plus any additional hours/days necessary in order to meet business demands.

  • Teamwork: Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests.
